Winter Rye grass and when to plant it in San Antonio

The best climate for winter rye grass anywhere is when the night time temperature gets below 60 degrees f. In San Antonio by the beginning of November is when my lawn service plants and is usually the case, sometimes earlier. I know it is safe to plant rye grass here by November 1st.

Here in San Antonio the average day for the last spring frost is march 3rd. I think that seeding a lawn is always safe here by March 15th. The latest frost on record for San Antonio was march 19th and if the seed has only been down for a few days when that happens it will survive.
